The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is an independent regulatory agency that was founded in 2011 by the Constitution of Kenya. The Commission is responsible for conducting or supervising referenda and elections to any elective body or office established by the Constitution, and any other elections as prescribed by an Act of Parliament.
Its mandate includes "the continuous registration of voters and revision of the voter's roll. It also verifies the voters register and politicians' political parties.
Recently the President of Republic of Kenya went ahead to appoint four commissioners after being nominated by the Parliament and then sworn in by the acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.
However, this seems a hard rock to crack a petitioner (Muthoni) has moved to court seeking permission to block IEBC recruitment selection pannel from assuming the office,Citing lack of transparency in the way the four were arrived at.
According to the standard newspaper, Muthoni wants Dr. Elizabeth Muli,Gideon Solanka,Awori James and Elizabeth Odundo who were nominated by the Parliamentary Service Commission blocked from assuming the office. She cited that the posts of the four commissioners were not advertised and thus it is unconstitutional.
The commissioners are set to vet new IEBC officials who in turn will fill the positions left by some Officers like Roseline Akombe among others.
