It is clear that the Azimio flagbear Raila Odinga is the most senior politician in the 2022 race and probably the oldest in the presidential race. Raila is 77 years old while his competitors Ruto and Wajackoyah are 56 and 63 respectively. Ruto's allies have used his health and age to discredit his candidacy. They have claimed that he is too old to lead Kenyans. However, vocal analyst has demystified this saying that age does not matter. Professor Dominic Mwenja said that experience matters and Raila is the most experienced presidential candidate this year's race. He said that Raila needs to be respected on this.
He added that Raila's age does not matter as a man is as old as he thinks. He compared Raila to the USA president Joe Biden and said that he is doing well and yet he is aged. Patrick Obath said that if someone is in good health then their age does not matter. He admitted that Kibaki, Moi and Mzee Kenyatta did not fail because of their age. Professor Gituro Wainaina said that being a president is not running around but more of listening to the people.
However, James Mureu claimed that although experience is good, it is important to read the signs of time and pass on the baton to the younger leaders. Another analyst also made his remarks and said that Kenyans need to demystify the myth that politicians are young. He added that if our politicians like DP William Ruto were normal civil servants then they would be retiring today because the age of 60 beacons and also the same would be true for running mates Rigathi Gachagua and Martha Karua.
