National Youth Service has been on the limelight for the wrong reasons yet again. The government institution has lost billions of money to unscrupulous individuals yet none has ever been persecuted.

This time it was found out that Water Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki was involved in helicopter ride scandal that used funds from the NYS.

The National Assembly Public Accounts Committee heard that NYS hired chopper in 2017 - 2018 for Sh7.7 million for fieldwork staffs travelling to various destinations.The end trip was supposed to be at Wilson Airport but the chopper was diverted by the CS to drop her at Windsor which wasn't approved hence attracting additional charges.

Appearing before Oversight Committee, Public Service Principal Secretary refused to give the details of the occupant of the ride but insisted it was a senior officer of the government. The committee members however concluded that she was protecting the said person.

“Confirm to this committee that the person who used this helicopter in question was CS Sicily Kariuki? Before you answer your question, remember if you continue to be protective of her this can go down on you very badly,” PAC chairman Opiyo Wandayi said as quoted from The Star Newspaper.

The Chair said they will summon CS Kariuki to appear before them and told the PS to table the names of the occcupants in the same sitting.
