KUPPET is a national teacher union which fights for the rights of the teachers.
It has both county and national elections with different leaders.
So far, the branch elections have been held in different counties.
Today it was a turn for Kericho County to choose their representatives
Here a shock and current was sent to the public. Mary Rotich emerged the winner on those elections.
This makes her the first Woman to win the executive secretary seat.
This post has great benefits which Mary is going to enjoy. Firstly, she will be out of class for the next five years.
She will be in charge of all funds deducted by the commission to the union.
For instance, an executive secretary in Nairobi branch pockets over a million shilings.
This seat has been dominated fully by men in the country since time memorial.
Starting from the national organization to counties, no woman has ever served the post.
In Kericho county, all the elected members are new to the system.
Nobody who was in the office retained his/her seat. We wish her all the best.
