Today has marked the second day the deputy president William Ruto is the coastal region to cement his authority ahead of 2022 general election. The region since 2007 has always supported the Orange Democratic Party .The opposition has controlled the coastal region for more than a decade. The rise of the deputy president seems to have changed the politics of coastal region. In his visit today in kilifi county, the deputy met MCAs,Mps religious leaders and other local policy makers in the region to chat way forward for the future of coastal region. The following are three possible reasons why Ruto has managed to control large crowds, yet most of the elected leaders are from opposition political parties.
1 Musambweni Factor
Recently, there was a By-Election for a member of Parliament in Msambweni constituency. The orange Democratic candidate was defeated by an independent candidate who was supported by the deputy president. In the area,it was concluded that the residents embraced the ideaology of 'Hustlers' advocated by the deputy. Going back in the area it is like homecoming for the deputy president.
2 Ruto's Generosity
It quite evident that most people say the deputy president has slot of 'goodies' to offer. He rarely disappoint the residents. He.has been involved in various harambee both in churches and other social functions. Any place he visits people have a lot of expectation which he has always addressed unlike his competitors .
3 Decline Of ODM in the region.
The orange Democratic party seems to be losing its popularity in the area. Most of the governors who were elected in the region including the kilifi governor, Amason Kingi are serving their last term.It seems the region is ripe for new political party in the new political dispensation.
