ODM Leader is in coast province for a one week tour to drum up more support for the Building bridges initiative BBI and to test Waters in his presidential bid amidst the looming fallout in ODM party.
During the tour Raila will hold several rallies to campaigning for the BBI bill which has since been passed by over 40 counties, five of the six Coast counties, Mombasa, Kwale, Tana River, Taita Taveta and Lamu have already passed the bill.
The tour also comes at a time when some leaders from the region within ODM have been advocating for the formation of a Coast political party. Among those who have been on the forefront advocating for the Coast party is Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi.
With Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has however maintained that he seek an ODM ticket to run for the presidency in 2011
But while Confirming Raila's tour, County Director of Communications Denis Onsarigo said the governor in collaboration with other leaders will take charge of the tour.
“The governor will take charge of Raila’s tour of the region starting Tomorrow Tuesday” he stated.
Onsarigo said that MPs Jones Mlolwa (Voi) and Andrew Mwadime (Mwatate), and area MCA’s will accompany Mr. Odinga and the governor in the tour.
“Raila will pay a courtesy call on the governor at his offices on Tuesday morning before inspecting the ongoing construction of the new Mwatate modern market and the sub-county isolation center at the Mwatate Sub-county hospital, before addressing a political rally in the town,” said Onsarigo.
Odinga is expected to address residents at Mwololo and Tausi trading centers before heading to Voi town.
“It is a good opportunity to have our party leader in the county. This is the second visit within six months and our supporters are optimistic to receive Raila,” Tairo told The Standard yesterday, adding: “The local community that overwhelmingly voted for him in the last General Election is very optimistic about Raila’s tour of the county and will turn out in large numbers to receive him”.
