National: Petitioner In 'IEBC 4' Ouster Motion Distances Himself From Claims Of Being Used By UDA

Third petitioner in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) four embattled commissioners, Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyangaya's parliamentary motion, Geoffrey Lang'at has distanced himself from claims of being used by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

While appearing before Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of National Assembly on Friday, Lang'at thrashed accusations leveled against him, that he was acting on behalf of president Dr William Ruto-led UDA. He averred that the petition was his inception. Link: https://www.facebook.com/Uzalendonews/videos/2302721936559675/?app=fbl

However, he confessed that he was an ordinary member of UDA and he voted for Dr Ruto as Kenya's president in August 2022 general election.

"Iam a member of UDA, but not sent by UDA to remove Cherera and the IEBC commissioners," said Lang'at.

This comes as the JLAC gets into day two of grilling petitioners who have tabled a motion before it, seeking removal of four IEBC commissioners for allegedly violating Kenya's constitution.

The committee is seeking grounds from the petitioners that would determine whether it would take the next course of action on the matter. If it finds out that the Cherera and team have a case to answer, it will recommend to the president that a tribunal be formed. The tribunal will hear and determine the case. In case the quartet is found guilty, they will be removed and others are appointed to replace them.

This follows the move by the four commissioners to stage a walkout when IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati was about to announce 2022 presidential election results at Bomas of Kenya on August 15th. They disowned the results and cited opaqueness in its last stage of verification and tallying.
