In Kenya, elders play a vital role in giving political directions to a certain community or region. This is the reason why there are numerous crowning events whenever the election time nears. Leaders who are coronated by elders receive much respect and they boost their chances of winning a political seat.
Mt Kenya elders have been making headlines in the recent past as they try to give political direction to this region. Although, there have been differences between some factions of the elders, they have a common ground that Uhuru is the president and must be respected.
With this being the stand of the elders, it would then be expected that the elders should side with Jubilee party considering that it's the president's party.
However, this is not the situation in Kiambaa after Kikuyu elders took a bold and unexpected move and crowned UDA candidate to be the next MP. The constituency will be holding a parliamentary by-election on 15th July following the death of Paul Koinange.
Reports show that Njuguna Wanjiku of UDA was crowned on Thursday 10th to be the next Kiambaa representative. Elders from Kiama Kia Ma graced the occasion. Njuguna has taken to his social media handles to thank and honor the elders for trusting him.
This is a major boost to UDA. The crowning event also serves a major blow to the ruling Jubilee party. With elders siding with UDA signals a possibility of the end of Jubilee party.
