The race to State House is gaining momentum everyday as Presidential aspirants continue their 2022 campaigns across the country. The race has attracted a number of candidates but according to political analysts, the race will eventually narrow down to a two horse race between ODM Party leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.
Currently, the two leaders seems to have the highest chances of clinching on the top seat owing to their popularity. However, there are other forces which cannot be ignored, particularly emanating from the Central region.
The region boasts of more than five million votes and thus plays an integral part in Kenyan politics. The region has so far produced two Presidents of the Republic and for a long time has voted as a bloc. Although the region is currently split into two, leaders led by MP Moses Kuria, Hon Martha Karua and Hon Mwangi Kiunjuri have vowed to unite the region and speak in one voice ahead of the next General Elections.
Some leaders from the region have also declared their interests in leading the country. Among them include the former governor of Kiambu County William Kabogo and the incumbent Speaker of the National Assembly Hon Justin Muturi. Others include outgoing Murang'a County Governor Mwangi Wairia and tycoon Jimi Wanjigi who has decided to challenge Raila Odinga for the ODM ticket.
Speaker Muturi seems to have the highest chance amongst them and they is a possibility of the rest joining him. He has been in the national politics serving in the Parliament for about eight years now. This gives him ample experience required in leading the country as he has successfully lead the legislative arm of the government.
MP Moses Kuria claimed that they are ready to work with anybody who will heed to their demands which include but not limited to 40% share of the government and atleast the position of the Deputy President. If Speaker Muturi agrees to their terms, he will have their support and have his chances elevated. This would mean that Raila and Ruto would have a difficult task in their Presidential bid and a possibility of losing to Speaker Muturi.
