Raila To Boycott Elections If IEBC Fails To Do This Ahead Of August Elections

With just about one month remaining to the August elections, the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party presidential candidate, Raila is not at ease with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on matters of register of voters.

The former prime minister has threatened to boycott the August elections should the IEBC fail to provide manual voter register on the election date.

According to Mr Odinga, the manual register offers a back up cover for electronic register. For instance, if BVR kits fails to identify a voter based on fingerprints, the voter should be allowed to vote using his/her identification details on the manual register. Additionally, the manual register makes it very easy to follow up how the voting process was conducted.

"We are telling the IEBC they must have a manual register along with biometric identification of voters on election day, failure to which there will be no election," said Raila Odinga.

"With a manual register, it is easy to tell how many people have voted in every polling station. In the electronic register, no records remains," he added.
