Breaking News; Meru County Governor Anounces Reopening of County Government Operations

The Governor of Meru County H.E. Kiraitu Murungi has directed County Secretary and Head of Public Dr. Rufus Miriti to issue out a circular effective this afternoon, recalling all County Government staff back to office beginning Monday. The staff members have been working from home after a directive was issued on August 10,2021, requiring them to work remotely following a spike in COVID-19 cases in the County.

While issuing the directive this afternoon during the 47th Seating of the Meru County Government Cabinet, Governor Kiraitu said the move has been necessitated by the evolving trends of COVID-19 disease where, even though the County still as of today, has recorded 41 admissions at the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital(MeTRH) and a total of 91 admissions countywide, the government is forced to adopt new ways of coping with and operating alongside the disease, owing to constrained timelines due to close proximity to next year’s general elections.

“As you are aware, we are headed into an electioneering year with the season of high political activities bound to commence around March next year, just five months away, and my administration is committed to ensure we complete and deliver all the developments and programs we pledged to our people,” said the Governor.

He further announced that all County Government members of staff shall be mandated to be fully vaccinated before being allowed to resume work on Monday, adding that the county minister for Health Misheck Mutuma will be tasked to facilitate and fast track vaccination of those who have not yet received the two jabs against COVID-19. All COVID-19 protocols shall be strictly adhered to during resumption of work in all departments.

Governor Kiraitu praised Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu and County Ministers for maintaining smooth operations of the County Government during his absence and called on them to maintain the momentum and inject even more vigor and energy now that he is back to office, to ensure all County Departments follow up and complete all ongoing programs. He directed that all procurement processes be wrapped by end of this month.
