It has emerged that allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta are facing a daunting task while trying to build the One Kenya Alliance, which is aimed at disrupting the influence that Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga have in their strongholds.
According to Taifa Jumapili newspaper, some sources have revealed that there had been a cover-up that had been carried out by senior officials at State House to fund the One Kenya Alliance and its activities in the country.
The reasons why allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta are having a hard time is because ODM party has been complaining about the "favoritism" of the coalition by the government, especially after it emerged victorious in the by-elections in Matungu, Kabuchai and Machakos County constituencies.
The revelation of the conspiracy is said to have contributed to President Kenyatta's swift visit to Mr Odinga on Wednesday, in order to allay concerns over the deal with the BBI.
According to sources, President Kenyatta held a private meeting with Mr Odinga at his residence in Karen Street, Nairobi, to try to reassure him that everything was calm.
"President Kenyatta has assured Mr Odinga that everything is in order," the sources said.
Political analysts say that despite the coalition winning the last few by-elections, Dr Ruto and Mr Odinga are still the most influential and influential politicians in their strongholds.
Similarly, they point out that the conspiracy may strengthen their support among their supporters, provided that the coalition's goal is political intervention.
"Dr Ruto and Mr Odinga are leaders who have supporters who trust and rely on them. They are politicians who have the power to force their followers to follow any political direction. So, if it becomes clear that the goal of the One Kenya Alliance is to interfere with them, then that is likely to build them up even more, ”said Mr Javas Bigambo, a political analyst.
According to the President's strategic plan, they aim to reduce Mr Odinga's popularity in the Coast region and the Kisii region, in order to portray him as the only Luo Nyanza regional leader.
It is reported that in the Coast region, these officials are strategizing for the formation of an independent political party, sponsoring governors Ali Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Salim Mvurya (Kilifi) and Amason Kingi (Kwale).
The circles point out that it was due to this impetus that Governor Kingi recently stressed the need for the area to have its own political party in front of Mr Odinga.
