IEBC Warns Candidates of Participating in Fundraising beyond December 9th

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission through their chairman Wafula Chebukati has warned candidates who want to vie for upcoming elections against fundraisers beyond 9th of December 2021, and anyone found involving him or herself in the 'Harambees' risks being disqualified to vie.

This is according to Section 26 of the Election act of the new constitution. It states that a person may be disqualified if he or she directly or indirectly participates in any manner of fundraising within eight months to a general election or during the election period.

The 9th of December 2021 is exactly eight months to the next general elections which will be held on 9th August 2022 and the warning comes in line after some top politicians were accused of fundraising in churches and other public areas as away of swaying voters to their camp.
