Government Breaks Silence Through This Letter After Dennis Itumbi's Allegations Over Secret Meeting

The government through the Ministry of Public Service has broken its silence after Deputy President William Ruto's point man Dennis Itumbi alleged that Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Margaret Kobia in Meru County on Friday 22nd January 2021.

Below is the letter outlining everything over the meeting

MINISTRY OF PUBLIC SERVICE AND GENDER

PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS UNIT

FACEBOOK POST BY MR. DENNIS ITUMBI

Our attention has been drawn to a Facebook post by Dennis with regard to a meeting held by Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Margaret Kobia in Meru County on Friday 22nd January 2021. It is regrettable that post is based on falsehoods and is not factual. The Ministry of Public Service and Gender wishes to set the record straight by presenting the following facts:

1. The Cabinet Secretary held the meeting at Methodist Church, Kinoru, and not Kinoru Stadium as claimed.

2. The meeting was the last of a series of the Cabinet Secretary's three-county tour of Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Meru counties, where she was inspecting government projects and disbursing women empowerment funds from the Affirmative Funds under her ministry. Embu County, she disbursed Kshs. 25 million, in Tharaka-Nithi County she disbursed Kshs. 13 million and in Meru County she disbursed Kshs. 39 million. The funds were disbursed from the Women Enterprise Fund and not from Uwezo Fund, as inaccurately presented.

3. The Cabinet Secretary's meetings in the three counties were held under strict Ministry of Health COVID-19 protocols. With social distancing observed, only a section of community leaders, women leaders and national government leaders were allowed to attend. There was no crowd at any of the meetings to qualify a 'walkout' as alleged.

4. The focus of the three-county meetings was to sensitize women groups on the enhanced loan limits and improved lending terms that the ministry has reviewed to enhance women empowerment programs across the country, particularly after the COVID-19 disruption.

5. Present at the Methodist Church in Kinoru were the Meru Deputy County Commissioner, Titus Kilonzo, Members of Parliament, Hon. Dawood Rahim (Imenti North) and Hon. Moses Kirima (Imenti Central). Governor Kiraitu Murungi and KEMSA Chair Kembi Gitura were not present at the meeting as alleged.

For reasons best known to him, Mr. Itumbi has made a report of events that never occurred, introduced people who were not in the Cabinet Secretary's meetings, and introduced topics that were never part of the Cabinet Secretary's agenda.

We wish to request Mr Itumbi and his associates to desist from making statements with respect to Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Margaret Kobia, or the functions of her ministry without ascertaining facts. We also request that he desists from associating the Cabinet Secretary with a political agenda that has no bearing to her mandate.
