Deputy President William Ruto, the leader of the United Democratic Alliance, paid a visit to Kirinyaga county today amid a fierce battle between incumbent Governor Anne Waiguru and female lawmaker Purity Ngirici.
The second in command made no apologies for commenting on the ongoing verbal battle between the two. In his address, Ruto stated that the gubernatorial ticket would be given to the candidate who is fairly nominated by Kirinyaga residents. The crowd erupted in cheers and applause in support of Ruto's stance on the rivalry.
Ruto added that as the UDA party, they will ensure that nominations are conducted fairly and without favor, and that whoever wins the ticket will be supported by the party. He also urged party leaders and supporters to maintain peace and refrain from verbal abuse and insults, as has been the case in the past.
Waiguru just joined the party, which did not sit well with Ngirici.
