A Total Of 55 Presidential Aspirants Declare Interest As IEBC Issues Update On Election Activities

It is exactly eighty three days remaining to the next general election. Many activities are being placed in order to ensure the process runs smooth to avoid what transpired during the 2007-2008 post election. The body in charge of election have this evening issued an update on the election preparedness to the public.

According to information released on the page, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission stated that a total of fifty five presidential aspirants have expressed interest to vie. Out of these, forty are independent, fourteen are from political parties while one is from a coalition agreement.

On the side of Governors, a total of 244 have forwarded their names for considerations. Out of these, 77 are independent while 167 are from political parties. The Presidential and Gubernatorial aspirants will be vetted by the National and County returning Officers respectively to see their qualifications.

These activities are expected to commence as soonest as position. This is to go with schedule released few weeks ago where the official campaigns are set to begin on 29th this month. The aspirants are also urged to comply with election requirements which dictate that each should submit a list of at least 2000 supporters. This will be the first election in Kenya to have the highest number of independent candidates vying for the highest office.
