Nairobi Set To Officially Have A New Governor, Court Of Appeal Judges Rule

In the year 2020, the then governor of Nairobi County, Hon Mike Sonko was removed from office constitutionally after a vote of no confidence was voted against him by the MCA's of Nairobi.

A gap was left behind in the office of the governor as Sonko was exercising his duties without a deputy. The speaker of Nairobi County, Hon Mutura acted as the governor for sometime until Anne Kananu who was earlier appointed as the deputy governor by Sonko, but never served, became the acting governor.

Today, the Court of Appeal judges have ruled that Sonko has been out of office for over 10 months and is no longer Nairobi Governor, paving way for Ann Kananu to be sworn in.
