Mwai Kibaki is dead at the age of 90

President Uhuru Kenyatta announced Kibaki's death in a televised speech to the nation on Friday, April 22, 2022 terming him as a brilliant debater and an earnest friend to many.He has died at the age of 90 and was the only surviving former president. 

Kenyatta has declared a period of mourning in honor of Kibaki, during which flags will be lowered to half-mast. Kibaki is survived by four children Judy Wanjiku, Jimmy Kibaki, David Kagi and tony Githinji.

Kibaki served as the third president of the Republic of Kenya from 2002 to 2013.

Deputy President William Ruto eulogized Kibaki as an economist par excellence and a great leader who strove to grow the country’s economy.

President Kenyatta has also ordered that his motorcade and those of the Deputy President, Chief Justice, Speakers of both Houses of Parliament and all Diplomats should not fly the Kenyan flag until Mwai Kibaki is buried.
