A fundraising event towards construction of Dr Ida Odinga Research, Library, Innovation and Resource Centre raised raised a cool Ksh 126Million.
The proceeds are meant to build a library at Ogande Girls High school in Homabay County.
Even before today's ceremony, according to blogger Robert Alai,the fundraising was already doing well in different WhatsApp groups.
"Already seen that it was close to Ksh 31million jana with each MP tasked to donate not less than 500k," tweeted Alai.
Alai noted that President Kenyatta and his brother Muhoho Kenyatta sent Ksh 6M and 4M respectively.
Speaking at the event,the former Prime Minister's wife said that "the Dr. Ida Odinga Library, Research, Innovation and Resource Center is a "centre of excellence; the melting pot and meeting point of academic excellence, research, skills acquisition in computer and ICT related ﬁelds, ﬁlm and creative arts.
She further noted that the project will secure her legacy as a dedicated alumnus as well as a lifetime teacher, career and life coach of the girl child.
Other dignitaries who attended the event include Ida's husband ODM party leader Raila Odinga, Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi, Kisumu Deputy Governor Owili,Homabay Governor Cyprian Awiti, Siaya Senator James Orengo among others.
