Irungu Kang'ata is the senator for murang'a county and the former Senate Majority Chief Whip. He is a law graduate from the university of Nairobi and a principal in the firm Irungu Kangata & Co. Advocates located at Flamingo Towers Upperhill, Nairobi. Kang'ata is the immediate former member of parliament for kiharu constituency and a former Councillor for Central Ward murang'a town. He is a PhD (Law) researcher at the University of Nairobi and teaches law at Catholic university of East Africa, Nairobi.

senetor Irungu Kangata was in good terms with the president of the republic of Kenya until the time when the letter that he meant to inform the president Kenyatta about the take of BBI in the central region leaked. With his huge experience as lawyer, he knew how well to write an informed letter to his boss. Though he intended the letter to reach the president alone without media accessing it, before he knew it , it was all over in the public domain. He accepted writing the letter to the president, the but he denied making it public. Since then it has not been the same with him again.

Some of the effect brought by his leaked letter is , his good relationship with the head of State died. This is evident after he was forced out as the senete Major chief whip and the position surrender to his kiambu counterpart, senetor kimani wamatangi. The second is that, his political stand has changed, he is now in support of the deputy president William ruto. This makes him seen as a person of double standard, unauthentic and disloyal leader. In the long run, he is going to lose in any contest election. This might lead to his first down fall. He has never lost in any election he contested, and 2022 might be the first. This has also hunted him, as his bodyguards has been withdrawn, and now is exposed to criminal attacks.
