The battle for Kirinyaga Governor seat during the 2022 general election has taken a new twist with the incumbent Ann Waiguru now giving the clearest indication yet that she is about to join Deputy President William Ruto's camp.
In what could be the turning point in Kirinyaga politics going to the next general election, Waiguru asked her supporters to suggest for her the political outfit she could use to defend her seat. And in one voice, they said " UDA".
The United Democratic Alliance outfit is Dr Ruto's new political vehicle in his State House bid.
If Waiguru finally dumps President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party for the "hustler nation", her bid for a second term in office will still face some challenges especially in the battle for the UDA party ticket.
Kirinyaga Women Representative Purity Ngirici is a favourite to bag the UDA party ticket with the outspoken legislator keen to unseat the incumbent.

However, being a political giant in her own rights, Waiguru can still pull a shocker and deny Ngirici the UDA party ticket. But there is no guarantee that this can happen considering the MP's closeness to the DP.
With former Gichugu MP Martha Karua and Interior Principal Secretary Dr Karanja Kibicho also eyeing the seat, expect political fireworks to flare in Kirinyaga with the Waiguru and Ngirici showdown for the UDA ticket being the curtain raiser.
