Kenyans Told Raila's Monday Rally Could Be Halted As Kenya Kwanza Politician Moves To Court

The news of Sonko taking Raila to court for declaring a public holiday shook Kenya, with citizens and observers from far and wide weighing in on the controversy. Supporters of Raila labeled Sonko’s move as another way to suppress the will of the people and rally to support their leader. On the other hand, Sonko’s backers said the Governor was justified in filing the petition to uphold the law and set the record straight.

Regardless of which side people stood on, the Judge’s ruling gave everyone a much-needed sense of clarity. Lady Justice Hedwig Ong'udi noted that the Petition was of national interest and thus could not be dismissed prematurely. The Judge further reminded everyone that there was a laid down procedure for the declaration of Public Holidays in Kenya, and ordered Sonko to serve Raila and the Office of the Attorney General. Finally, the Judge scheduled the matter to be mentioned on Tuesday, March 21, the day after Raila’s planned mass action.

Though a fierce battle had broken out between Sonko and Raila, justice was ultimately served. The country now waits in anticipation to see how the Court rules on the case and determine the fate of Raila’s Public Holiday.
