2022 Kasarani MP aspirant Weston Wanjohi has taunted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after President William Ruto gave more powers to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
During a Cabinet meeting held at the State House on Tuesday, Ruto tasked Mudavadi with overseeing performance management across all ministries, state departments, and state agencies.
The move came following a review of the Financial Year 2021/2022 Performance Contracting Cycle of all ministries and departments in which the Cabinet pointed out the worrying situation in the country necessitating the need for a performance management function to ensure accountability.
Wanjohi mocked Gachagua saying he had been overlooked by his boss the way Ruto was bypassed by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta when he made then Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as the chairman of powerful Cabinet sub-committee which supervised all government programmes and projects.
"History repeating itself...... UHURU bypassed his deputy and gave Matiang'i sweeping powers. Ruto bypasses Rigathi and gives Mudavadi sweeping powers," he posted on Facebook.
The outspoken KANU politician went further to ridicule the DP saying he was now free to fight with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja over control of transport industry in the capital.
"Rigathi can now compete with Sakaja over matters Nairobi. He can assume the role of being Nairobi governor and defend My Kenya interests in Nairobi," Wanjohi said.
Rigathi has vehemently opposed Sakaja's move to order matatus from the CBD saying the exercise will hurt Kikuyu businesspeople in the transport industry.
