Kakamega Governor seeks assembly's approval for wife's executive role

Kakamega county governor Fernandes Barasa has requested the county assembly to pass the bill of having the office of the County Governor's wife.Mr Barasa said that for his term to be successful his government should recognize the role of his wife in implementation of the county's development projects.

Mr Fernandes Barasa's wife is called professor Kassily who is a lecturer at Masinde Muliro university.Prof.Kassily thanked voters for electing her husband and went on to say that issues concerning women were close to her heart.She promised ladies to support them and champion other issues affecting residents of kakamega county.

Governor Fernandes Barasa promised the people of Kakamega good health, food security, wealth creation, education (ECDE and county polytechnics), social development and good governance.He also said he needs support of his wife to push through his development agenda.

Proposing the first ladies office the governor said "There is no law that formally establishes the Office of the County Governor’s Spouse." He further said he is hoping for the county government to enact a legislation to enable the creation of the office of the Governor's wife.
