Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos who stands as the only Rift Valley Governor supporting Raila Odinga's presidential bid hosted him last week where thousands of the residents made their way to Eldoret bringing the town to a stand still for about two hours.
On Sunday, Tolgos led Raila allies to review his massive and heroic welcome to the City of Champions that surprised Deputy President William Ruto's allies as Rift Valley is considered his stronghold.
According to a publication by the Star, Tolgos said that the warm welcome Raila received was a proof that Kenyans have made their way past tribal politics, assuring that more of such rallies will be coming before the elections.
"We thank residents for turning up in large numbers to welcome Raila and we believe what we saw was just the tip of what lies ahead. Odinga will enjoy support in this region contrary to the thinking that it is someone’s zone," said Tolgos.
The report adds that Ruto's allies across the region have convened a meeting that will take place in Eldoret and will bring on board at least 80 MPs and the residents to show that the region is solidly behind him in his first stab at the presidency.
