See How Garissa County's 30 ICT Centres Are Spuring Innovation

The county government of Garissa has put up 30 ICT centers across the region during the past three years.

Out- going CEC for Education, vocational training, ICT and Public Service Hon Habiba Nasib said said this today during handing-over ceremony to new CECHon Ahmednadir Omar.

She said 30 ICT centers were constructed- one in every ward and were only waiting to be fully equipped.

She said the Administration of H.E. Ali Korane empowered vocational training centers on infrastructural development and heightening campaign drive that enrolled more than 2000 youth who acquired various technical training and given starter up kits to initiate business for self reliance.

The CEC mentioned construction of 10 ECD schools, a model ECD center at Bulla College, administration block and four lecture halls at Mikono technical College.

She also appreciated the enhanced partnership with Unicef, WFP, Kenya Red Cross and Agha Khan foundation to support both ECD schools and vocational training centers.

She said the County Government supported school feeding program for the past 3 years to encourage more enrolment in ECD centers.

The CEC also acknowledged the support from Kenya Commercial Bank and Tullow oil for sponsoring 70 youth from Garissa County to institution in Nairobi for advanced technical training courses who are almost graduating.

She added that the International Labour Organization sponsored 21 youth from Garissa County to achieve technical training courses at the East African Institute in Nairobi three days ago.

The CEC who moves to Lands, Housing and Urban services urged the incoming CEC to ensure the completion of an ECD bill and ECD policy that were at an advenced stage.

The ECD bill was drafted to address rights of ECD children, establish and register ECD centers including the existing ECD centers and management of ECD schools.

Hon Ahmednadir Omar assured steering quality services, professional integrity and innovation creativity and ensuring the success to the vision of the department to be a leading County in the provision of holistic ECD services in Kenya.

The handing over was witness by chief officer for ICT, E-Governance and Library services Rashid M Farah, Chief officer for Public service and Labour relations Nimo Mohamed Abdi and Director for ECD Ahmed Bashir.
