Oscar Sudi, a Kapseret Member of Parliament, has taken a jab at the Royal Media Service (RMS) over what he described as a discrepancy in reporting on the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
According to the lawmaker, S. K. Macharia, the owner of RMS, is one of the primary campaigners for ODM leader Raila Odinga' s presidential bid. Additionally, he asserted that the RMS boss has chosen to devote his resources to Aimio La Umoja' s campaign.
The Kapseret MP alleged that Citizen TV is not neutral in its news coverage, as they occasionally misreport Kenya Kwanza demonstrations or impose a media embargo on them.
" We want to convey to the owner of Citizen TV that we are aware that you are campaigning for Azimio and that you are uninterested in the Kenya Kwanza Rallies, and that if Citizen TV does not include us anymore, to heck with your TV, " Sudi stated.
Initially, the Tangatanga team expressed their dissatisfaction in Kenyan media, alleging that they had been pushed by the government into publishing unfavorable reports about their faction.
According to the Kenyan media code of ethics and standard media practice, media organizations should always maintain a neutral stance when airing their news, yet in Kenya, media owners have been dictating or leading the way in disregarding conventional media practices.
During the disputed elections of 2007/08, the Kenyan media were accused of fabricating stories and failing to uphold their code of conduct.
The Kenya Media Council has warned journalists to adhere to the code of conduct as the country prepares for electioneering.
SK Macharia had in a past Azimio rally claimed that his political views and business interests are independent entities that do not interfere with each other.
" I stand before you today in my own role as a participant and observer of our country' s numerous hardships. For many years, I have taken the extremely courageous, honest, open, and public step of separating myself, Dr S. K. Macharia, as a responsible citizen of this nation, from my enterprises, which include broadcast media organizations " The Chairman of Royal Media Services stated.
