According to ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale, Deputy President William Ruto has his own reasons for not participating in the presidential debate.
The DP, a frontrunner in the presidential election, has indicated that he will not participate in the debate because some local networks are biased against him and in favor of his opponents.
However, Etale argues that Ruto is only searching for a way out of the difficult questions that may be asked during the discussion, and that he has resorted to making up explanations to avoid having to answer them.
He adds that the DP prefers to attend sessions in which he would be asked absurd questions that he can comfortably respond without being pressed.
"DP intends to forgo the National Television debate in order to participate in a Facebook debate sponsored by Ahmednasir Abdullahi and Dennis Itumbi on HNIB. He's looking for answers to soft issues like how he got started in chicken farming, how polluted water can be cleaned, and so on "In a tweet, he says.
On Thursday, Ruto also accused some local broadcasters of helping in the effort to prevent him from clinching the president by airing anti-Ruto propaganda.
"We have counseled our candidate against participating in the presidential debate due to the current politicized media environment," Hussein Mohamed, his campaign's communications director, stated.
Ruto is running for the presidency for the first time, and he is up against a number of other contenders.
