Following strange occurrences in the politics of the Mt. Kenya region, Nelson Kamande, a native of Nyeri, now thinks that president William Ruto may be worried about his vice president Rigathi Gachagua.
According to a citizen of Nyeri who spoke with The Sunday Standard, the decision by a number of Mt. Kenya area officials from both the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition and the opposition Jubilee party to announce their support to the deputy president is a warning to the head of state.
The gathering of Jubilee and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) allies in the region and the declaration of vice president Rigathi Gachagua as their leader, he claimed, "must worry President William Ruto Ruto."
He was making reference to statements made by opposition politicians, including Jeremiah Kioni and Hon. Ngunjiri Wambugu, a former member of the national assembly from the Nyeri township constituency, that Gachagua is now in charge of the Mount Kenya region.
Isaac Thuita, a legislator for Nyeri county, agreed with him, saying that Gachagua was doing well with his hand and had everything to gain. According to him, Gachagua is employing the same strategies that the president employed against Uhuru Kenyatta, the former president.
"Gachagua will benefit from this conversation. He might be speaking in opposition to what those who support him are saying, but he could also be using Ruto as leverage. acting in the same manner as Ruto did when he served as Uhuru's deputy, Thuita said.
