President William Ruto will not replace Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai with Japhet Kooma so easily, a report says. The President along with the Attorney General Kihara Kariuki were arraigned over the selection of Ruto de Koome as the new IG after Mutyambai was put on leave.
Sources working on the new development revealed that a Kenyan citizen has gone to court to block President Ruto's nomination of Koome on allegations that it was illegal.
According to Nation Media, a doctor named Magare Gikenyi, a surgeon, argued that Ruto's decision was unconstitutional, revealing that the appointment of such a person was the responsibility of the police committee. National Survey (NPSC).
In a statement captured by the media, Gikenyi reiterated that President Ruto is said to have power beyond borders and that he does not have the authority to initiate the recruitment process for the post himself as Inspector.
"The president is giving himself powers he doesn't have. Only the National Police Service Commission initiates the process after obtaining the position of Inspector General. The president does not have the right to hire an IG on his own," said Dr. Gikenyi in court documents compiled by the Nation.
