Why Facebook Shut Down Accounts of top Uganda officials Ahead Of Elections

Uganda is expected to experience a hot election contest which is expected to be with incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, 76, who will be facing a stiff challenge from the popstar-turned-politician Bobi Wine, 38. The elections is expected to be on Thursday  14th January 2020

Social media giants such like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have come under increasing scrutiny over the content they allow to spread on their networks. Most people have been using the social media to manipulate the public. This has led to the closure of the accounts belonging to the accounts of some prominent people.

The accounts belonging to Ugandan government top officials accused of seeking to manipulate public debate ahead of elections Thursday have been closed down with immediate effect, the internet giant said Monday January 2021.

Facebook and Instagram accounts belonging to Museveni's senior press secretary Don Wanyama have been shut down. Mr. Wanyama accused the company of seeking to influence the election.

The account belonging to a  well-known blogger and Museveni supporter was shut down. The accounts belonging to one of the prominent doctor and a senior government official in the information ministry has been shut down
