Antony Mwaniki Is The Man For PSC Chairperson Post As Uhuru Gives Him The Mantle

 President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Amb Antony Mwaniki as Chairman of the Civil Service Commission.

 A parliamentary committee will now proceed to the approval hearings.

 Muchiri is currently Kenyan Ambassador to Cuba.

 He is simultaneously High Commissioner, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Kenya to Jamaica, Barbados, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Guyana, Dominican Republic and CARICOM (the Caribbean Community).

 Twelve candidates had been shortlisted for the post that became vacant following the death of Stephen Kirogo on May 14.

 PSC vice-president Charity Kisotu and former PS Mahboub Mohammed Maalim of Special Programs were among the shortlisted.

 The others were Selly Jemutai Kimosop, Charles Onami Maranga, Kennedy Juma Mulunda, Susannah Rebecca Ochieng, Maurice Mutinda Wambua, Nancy Oundo Dalla, Elseba Jepkoech Too, David Kung'u Njoroge and Duke Omondi Orata.

 The shortlisted candidates were interviewed at Harambee House, Nairobi, on November 10-11.

 Uhuru declared the post vacant on August 24 after Kirogo died in a Nairobi hospital.

 Advertisements ran in local dailies published on October 14 and republished on October 18.

 The selection jury received 99 applications (73 men and 26 women). Among the applicants, 25 had a doctorate, 49 (master's), 23 (license) and two (diploma).

 Muchiri joined the civil service as an entry-level deputy inspector at the Inspection of State Corporations.

 He later served as a district officer and in other roles at the Home Office; Information and planning.

 He also served in the State Department for ASAL; the Cabinet of Cabinet Affairs and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service; and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
