Raila Odinga: Cherera's Opaque-Presser Forced Me To Accept Election Loss

For the first time, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga talked about how the infamous press conference by IEBC commissioners who disagreed with him made him accept the election results.

IEBC vice chairperson Juliana Cherera and her colleagues, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyang'aya, opposed the presidential results.

Raila mentioned a similar event that took place in 2010 in Ivory Coast, where the election body chairperson rushed to announce the results after disagreeing with juniors. After the election, fighting broke out in Ivory Coast, and Laurent Gbagbo, the country's former president, was brought before the International Criminal Court (ICC) and accused of crimes against humanity.

In Kenya, Wafula Chebukati, chair of the IEBC, declared William Ruto to be the new president at Bomas of Kenya. His deputy, on the other hand, rejected the results at a parallel press conference, nearly following the same pattern.

Having been appointed to act as a mediator between the conflicting factions, Raila described how he witnessed the aftermath of the Ivory Coast skirmishes.
