Opinion: What Kalonzo Should Do to Maintain His Political Supremacy in Ukambani Ahead of 2022 Polls

As one of the 2022 presidential hopefuls, wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka suffered a major setback in the just concluded Nguu/Musumba ward by-election after his candidate came a distance third after an independent candidate and Ruto's UDA candidate respectively.

This led to mixed reactions with majority now claiming that the political supremacy of Kalonzo Musyoka in Ukambani region is gradually coming down hence it will be very difficult for him to succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

However, there are still several options that Kalonzo can choose from so as to maintain his political supremacy in the region and eventually be part of the next government.

The first thing Kalonzo should do is to convene a special meeting with the three Ukambani governors, Kivutha Kibwana of Makueni, Charity Ngilu of Kitui and Dr. Alfred Mutua of Machakos and seek for their support.

Having the support of these three influential governors will automatically give Kalonzo some political strength and more relevant in the 2022 race to State House.

Also, since the former prime minister Raila Odinga still has a lot of influence in Ukambani, Kalonzo should abandon his presidential bid and support Raila as his running mate in 2022.Photo: Machakos governor Alfred Mutua.

Since the three governors from Ukambani have good relationship with Raila Odinga, if Kalonzo joins Raila's camp will make them sail in the same boat hence granting him easy time in making political decisions in the region.
