Why Raila Odinga Rejected the Presidential Results

Wafula Chebukati, the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, has come under fire from former prime minister Raila Amollo Odinga for allegedly exceeding the scope of his constitutionally granted jurisdiction. He said that because the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's chairperson lacks the authority to decide on his or her own, the case will be taken to the Supreme Court.

Raila provided a brief statement on what they intend to do following the news on August 16, 2022. As Kenyans await the final verdict from the Azimio senior leadership, Raila has urged them to maintain calm. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's chief, Mr. Wafula Chebukati, announced the results at Bomas of Kenya yesterday. Raila Odinga has rejected them.

Raila referred to the outcome as "Chebukati's results" and insisted that the commissioners were not involved in the final tally. The four commissioners have been referred to by Raila as national heroes and heroines. The commissioners have been informed by him that they have nothing to worry about since the entire republic is with them and they are secure.
