It has normally been said that a day or two in politics equates to decades of real life's days.Echoing the sentiments made by Garissa Township Member of Parliament Hon Aden Bare Dwale over the weekend,a politician is the last person you should plant your trust in as far as various undertakings in life are concerned.
Kenyan political terrain has witnessed a litany of political mistrust and betrayal. It is normally not amazing at all as these define the form and substance of political life and cycles of any society.
One of the casualties of political betrayal and mistrust in Kenya is ODM party leader Raila Amolo Odinga.Odinga has experienced these much enough in his quest to ascend to the leadership helm of this country.
After his handshake with President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta,Raila was seen to have metamorphosised into a new political figure and master. An official opposition leader bravely walking all the tight ropes to strike a political truce and deal with a sitting head of state is something that can't be written off and wished away.
With the eventual bromance of the handshake duo, speculations have been rife on a possibility of Uhuru endorsing Raila for Presidency come 2022.There have even been alleged mechanism in place to have this assertion materialise, one being the grand merger of ODM party and the rulling party-Jubilee.
As these perceptions and allegations too also can't be wished away, new revelations from Uhuru's trusted quarters do put this undertaking into a weighing scale. There seems to be existing options that the president is clinging onto at the moment after which he would eventually let the cat out of the bag.
Reliable sources have confirmed that the Head of State has been seen more concerned with his development agenda and legacy as his time in office is gradually elapsing.Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Hon Ngunjiri Wambugu who is also a close confidant of the President, has confirmed that Uhuru has now given his back to the vote-rich Mount Kenya region's politics and his succession debate.
The legislature pointed out betrayal by Mount Kenya backyard as the main reason as to why the Head of State is going soft and even becoming adamant over various issues that touch on political undertakings. He explained that the Head of State has castigated the Mount Kenya leaders for conspiring with the ant-BBI brigade to wrestle down the initiative and the goodies it would have too brought to the region.
It is in this line that the President seems uninterested in Mount Kenya politics and even his succession debate at large. As things seem to turn,Uhuru may borrow leaf from retired President Mwai Kibaki and remain mum on his succession and exit political stage holding high reputation and his dignity.
Should Uhuru choose to remain mum over his succession debate,it could be a devastating blow to Raila who many perceive is eagerly awaiting the Head of State's endorsement to sail through to State House come 2022.It could be an anthill task for the Orange Party Leader to trounce Deputy President William Ruto whose popularity countrywide has immensely swelled.
