Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Wednesday met with Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata where he fulfilled his pledge.
The Governor had asked the Senator for meeting to buy him a cup of tea after he commended him for supporting the BBI in the letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Governor said it is important that the Senator should be backed and not backed.
He says his sentiments is a wake-up call to the BBI proponents in the country to re-strategize and have a conversation on how the BBI can gain massive support across the country.
He went on to endorse his sentiment so the BBI and asked him for a meeting to congratulate him for raising pertinent issues that will see the BBI succeed.
By the time he was speaking and asking for the meeting, the Senator’s phone had been switched off.
On Wednesday, Governor Mutua took to twitter to inform Kenyans that he had met with the senator and fulfilled his promise to him.
“As promised, I bought Senator Irungu Kang’ata a drink after he managed to call me & we linked up. We discussed our love for our country, our people, & why it is important to tell the truth and enact the right changes & moves to achieve success. Mbele iko sawa,” said Governor Mutua.
Governor Mutua meeting was about the letter the Senator wrote to the President where he informed him the BBI is unpopular in the Mt Kenya region.
Kang’ata said his findings indicate that only two people out of 10 support the BBI while the other 2 are indifferent and the remaining 6 opposed the BBI.
He said the majority of those who opposed the BBI are women and youths.
He told the president to take charge of the process in a bid to salvage the situation so that the people of the Mt Kenya can reap from the benefits of the BBI.
