Ruto Named Most Influential African Leader With Just Few Months In Office- Report

William Ruto, Kenya's fifth President, is the most influential African leader on Twitter in 2022.

This is according to the 2022 World Leader Power Ranking report released on Wednesday, December 7 by Burson Cohn and Wolfe's (BCW) Twiplomacy.

Furthermore, President Ruto advanced nine places from the 2021 global ranking to thirteenth place in 2022.

South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa and Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni are the continent's second and third most influential leaders on the social networking platform, respectively.

The President was also ranked third among New World Leaders by Twiplomacy.

An analysis of data collected between October 1, 2021 and September 30, 2022 informed the ranking.

Even as Twitter's new leadership casts doubt on the platform's future for digital diplomacy, one thing is certain: You can't take the social out of social media, not even for politicians.

The top three combine big personalities, geopolitical clout, and a large domestic following - all of which influence a world leader's influence on the platform.

Ruto, who took over for President Uhuru Kenyatta, has 5.6 million Twitter followers, while opposition leader Raila Odinga has 4.1 million.
