Machakos senatorial seat became vacant following the demise of the late Hon. Boniface Kabaka who died last year. The Speaker of the Senate Assembly Ken Lusaka declared the seat vacant and thereafter Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced the new dates of the by election set on 18th March 2021.
New twist has emerged ahead of the Machakos senatorial by election following the fresh allegations made by Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) that wants IEBC to remove Wiper's party candidate Agnes Kavindu from Machakos senatorial race claiming that she lacks academic qualifications as stated by the new Constitution 2010.
The senatorial seat has attracted a good number of candidates such as Urbanus Ngengele of United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Mutua Katuku of Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) Agnes Kavindu of (Wiper) among many more.
In conclusion, this seems to be a blow to the Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Agnes Kavindu who is the preferred candidate of filling the position left by the late Kabaka.
