DP Ruto is the man to beat and all eyes are on him. He started to campaign. in 2017 and the last few months, the second in command has done more than 200 campaigns in different parts of the country. The second in command from Saturday has been campaigning in President Uhuru' s backyard trying to woo the residents.
He started in Kiambu Thika and Gatundu North constituencies and on Sunday he was back in Kigumo Muranga County. Today he is expected to tour Meru County. This move has made Raila Odinga and his supporters have sleepless nights. Today one of the local media stations released an opinion poll on how people of the Mt. Kenya region will vote in 2022.
According to the poll, DP Ruto is taking the lead as the candidate the region will vote for in 2022. The former Prime Minister comes a distant second with 11%. This has sparked mixed reactions and is also expected to anger Kieleweke MPs in the region who have been campaigning for the ODM leader.
Reports also suggest that President Uhuru has a hand in Raila' s campaign and that is why his allies are associated with him are on the ODM side. As he toured Kigumo yesterday, all the politicians and leaders from that Constituency ditched the Jubilee Camp and they joined the Hustler Nation.
It seems that the UDA camp has already locked all the Mt. Kenya Counties and they will overwhelmingly support the Deputy President in 2022. This means it will be very hard for Raila Odinga to get a substantial number of votes from the region. But to win the polls, the Deputy President has only one task of choosing a running mate.
According to the poll released, Mt. Kenya residents have picked former Justice Minister Martha Karua as the best person who fits to be the running mate from the region. The iron lady has managed to beat big names like Kabogo, Moses Kuria, Kiraitu Murungi, and Peter Kenneth. If DP Ruto picks Martha then he will win very early in the morning.
