Maseno town is located along Kisumu-Busia highway 25 kilometers to the provincial capital in between the Nyanza and Western region.Another road connects Maseno to Vihiga town .It is the headquarters of Maseno division where equator passes through.The people who live here are mostly Luos and Luhyas.

Maseno town hosts a national university Maseno university located in the town .This is the largest contributor of economy of Maseno,it provides job opportunities for residents,provides commercial hub for students to purchase food, entertainment,basic life services such as hairdressing and paying rent.
Over the years,Vihiga county and Kisumu county usually experience land boundary disputes on the Kisumu-Maseno boarder.
This is because of the proximity of Maseno university,Maseno school and Kenya Forest Research Institute of which both counties want a share of the benefits that come from the institutions.
