The president's latest scathing attack on his deputy, William Ruto, has escalated the verbal conflict between him and him.
During the celebrations for Ushirika Day, the president slammed his deputy for making promises to Kenyans when he had the chance to keep them. He accused Ruto of championing his interests rather than those of Kenyans, accusing him of acting in their best interests.
The head of state went on to urge him to move past their bitter Fallout and to stop occasionally lamenting about it.
However, Ruto didn't respond to the president for a few minutes. While campaigning in Tharaka Nithi county, the presidential candidate for the United Democratic Alliance party reprimanded the president, saying he didn't need his backing.
He claimed that the president didn't need to back him because he was certain to defeat Raila. He asked Uhuru to take a back seat so he could take on the former prime minister.
