Elgeyo Marakwet county senator Kipchumba Murkommen was appointed by President William Ruto as the new Cabinet Secretary for Roads, Transport and Public Works.
Now that the vocal Rift Valley legislator has been elevated to the national government, the senatorial seat has been left vacant and has drawn interests from various political leaders from the region. The two heavyweights in the inevitable by- election are Jerotich Seii and Tim Kipchumba both flying the United Democratic Alliance party flag.
However, Seii has received a major boost after Uasin Gishu Women Representative and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Gladys Boss Shollei endorsed her senatorial bid. Taking to her official Twitter account on Wednesday night, September 28, Hon Shollei praised Seii for being a human rights defender and her biggest part in the famous Linda Katiba movement did not go unnoticed.
"Jerotich Seii is a vocal human rights defender and was part of the Linda Katiba movement. I wholeheartedly endorse her candindature for the position of Senator Elgeyo Marakwet. With the support of Elgeyo Marakwet residents, Jerotich will be a welcome addition to Parliarment," her post read.
