Cabinet Secretary for internal security Fred Matiang'i had hit out at Roots Party of Kenya presidential candidate George Wajackoyah terming his marijuana idea as a false promise to Kenyans.

He stressed that marijuana is a strictly controlled drug substance and individuals found in possession of it are subject to heavy penalties.

Regrettably, we have observed leaders mobilising the youth through misinformation and false promises such as the legalization of cannabis for commercial and recreational purpose if elected. As the government cannabis remains a controlled substance with very clear penalties.

His statement comes a few days after George Wajackoyah intensified his marijuana agenda during his recent campaign rallies. In a recent campaign, he boasted of how his plan will help abolish the Bodaboda business in Kenya by providing youths with millions of cash from working in marijuana farms.
