The past few days have seen a great increase in the in political activities especially in the ODM camp as the ODM party leader criss-cross the country in the bid to popularise his 2022 political ideals.
Just a couple of days after Raila took Nakuru Town by a storm, the ODM leader headed to Mombasa to meet the President and the One Kenya Alliance Brigade and on Thursday landed in at Sikri in Homa-Bay County to meet the ODM regional leaders.
While speaking at the function which hosted leaders from different parts of the Nyanza region, Raila made a call for unity of the region as one of his main agenda. Raila who has since showed the urge for going for the county’s top seat seems to be banking his hopes on the unity of the region which is practically multi ethnic.
Nyanza region has got six counties namely; Siaya, Kisumu, Homa-Bay, Migori, Nyamira and Kisii Counties. It is also a region which has different ethnic communities like Luos, Abagusi, Luhya, Kuria and Suba among others.
Perhaps it is this factor that has now prompted the ODM leader to call for unity of the region so as to give him an upper hand in the coming presidential contest.
“We are here to appeal that we join hands as a region get our political act together, pull in one direction and use the unity to create opportunities for our people and the nation in return,” said Raila.
Even though Raila avoided making direct allusions to the coming 2022 presidential contest in which he is a likely candidate, most of his remarks pointed towards that direction and any keen person could easily connect the dots.
“If we are able to pull together as a region, identify our priorities together, back it up with political goodwill and unity, nothing will stop us from addressing the development needs of our people,” asserted Raila.
In the past, Raila has performed in the Nyanza region however he has also met some hurdles in some parts of the Nyanza region. Will Raila’s call for unity among the Nyanza residents yield some results?
