Why August 2022 Elections Will be Postponed-Opinion

Kenyan political atmosphere has changed its direction recently. Citizens are in suspense, the two top men in leadership seem not to be reading from the same scripts. The previous stubborn opposition leaders are now clearly enjoying government goodies more than the vice president does. In this article, l convey my opinion on why the approaching general election is likely to be forwarded.

1. THE HANDSHAKE MOVEMENT ARE NOT READY FOR RUTO'S 'FIGHT'.

This point is based on my observations in the concluded by-elections. Dr. William Ruto is playing his cards smarter than anyone else. He has poached seats from the president's 'stronghold' deservedly. UDA is stronger than expected in the Mt.Kenya region. Juja and Kiambaa by-elections says it all.

Dr.Ruto is winning masses day by day all over Kenya, Nyanza not an exception (remember the Madaraka Day crowd). His political strategy is more than a tsunami. The only option at hand for the state head and his counterpart, Hon. Raila, is to call off the election date. In this way, they will have more time to fold their shirts for the heavy task ahead. Otherwise, it maybe a walkover for Dr. Samoei.

2. FOR THE PRESIDENT TO ORGANIZE HIS HOUSE.

It is no longer a secret that the state foreman lacks support from his own region. The Kenyan politics have always been determined by regional backups. Does Uhuru have the Mt.Kenya region at his back? No, not now.

Unless, Kenyatta is ready for embarrassment, he must put his house in order. This is hard to happen within such a short time remaining. Election postponement is the only remedy at hand.

3. BBI CHRONICLES.

Depends on what the court decides. If the ruling favors the 'reggae' movement, then it may come up with some repacutions to the nation. Voting twice in one year is a heavy burden for the struggling Kenya. Our economy is wanting, and that will make it more worse.

Unless voters vote for both referendum and the general election in the same, there will be need to call off the August main election to create a period for the referendum.

However, it will not be as easy as it looks. There is law in the country. Postponing elections will be unconstitutional unless proven legal through a court of law. But 'serikali iko na mkono mrefu". Anything is possible!

What is your take on the possibility of a postponed election?
