End Of Jubilee Party? Mass Exodus In Jubilee Party Looming As Governor Waiguru Agrees To Join DP Ruto

Uhuru Kenyatta's close ally and Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru has announced her deciaion to join deputy president William Ruto's UDA party, few days after BBI was rejected at the Court of Appeal.

Sources close to State House have confirmed Uhuru's hand in the Governor joining DP Ruto.

In her address to residents of Kirinyaga County on Wednesday, September 22, the outspoken former Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga's ally agreed with their call to defend her seat on a UDA party ticket, a party affiliated to deputy president William Ruto.

Waiguru defended her move to join DP Ruto's side stating that she was only following the wish of the residents and electorates of Kirinyaga County in order to defend her gubernatorial seat.

The residents of Kirinyaga county were overjoyed by the decision made by their governor, and shouted in unison, endorsing her for making a decision to decamp from Uhuru Kenyatta's ruling Jubilee Party to join DP Ruto's UDA camp.

"If they ask me why I chose UDA party, I will tell them that the people of Kirinyaga picked it for me," Governor Waiguru said as the crowd cheered her.

Anne Waiguru who is a first-time Kirinyaga governor recently hinted at possibilities of changing her political affiliation ahead of the 2022 General Election set for August.

It should be known that Waiguru has been a staunch supporter of Uhuru-Raila handshake, BBI and kieleweke faction of Jubilee Party which is affiliated with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

From 2018, Waiguru had affiliated herself with ODM party leader, Raila Odinga after he entered into a handshake with Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, Governor Waiguru few days ago came out to criticise the Building Bridges Initiative after the bill was nullified at the Court of where she described it as unpopular in the vote rich Mt Kenya region.

Waiguru later claimed that her statement on the BBI document had led to EACC summoning her, terming the move as political persecution by Uhuru Kenyatta's government.

It should be known that Governor Waiguru had earlier also raised fears that she could lose her seat in re-election if she vied on the ruling Jubilee Party ticket in the coming General Election.

"The truth of the matter is that it would be very difficult to defend my seat as governor if the elections were held today.

And that is the truth of the matter. Jubilee party under the leadership of our president needs to look internally at its issues in order to be acceptable to the people of Mt Kenya," Governor Waiguru said in her statement.

On Friday September 17, Waiguru also turned down all the running mate offers from various presidential candidates for the 2022 General Election.

She however said that her main focus is to get re-elected as governor of Kirinyaga and serve her people.

The embattled Kirinyaga governor also confessed she had received numerous offers to be a possible running mate to some big and leading presidential candidates, but declared she is only interested in defending her gubernatorial seat in the next election.

"At this point in time, I am seeking to be re-elected as governor of Kirinyaga County. The day my position in that changes, I will make it public and known to every Kenyan" governor Waiguru said.

Waiguru also said if she ran on Jubilee party ticket in 2022, she would have a difficult time telling people to vote for her.

'If I ran today on a Jubilee Party ticket and someone else ran on a different party, even if Kirinyaga people felt I had performed, it would be hard to convince them to vote for me." She said.
