Gideon Moi is seeking to acquire the trust of the Kipsigis people, who were the main population displaced from Mau, by using DP Ruto's words, according to sources.

According to observers, if Moi is successful in resettling Mau evictees, the DP risks losing over 1 million votes from Kipsigis, who are located predominantly in the South Rift counties of Bomet, Kericho, and parts of Narok and Nakuru.

In the 2013 elections, DP Ruto used the Mau relocation against Raila Odinga, which cost Raila votes in the South Rift.According to the DP, Raila has been involved in the displacement of the Kipsigis people from Mau when he was Prime Minister.
