IEBC Issues a New Directive to Political Leaders Ahead of The August Polls

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued a new directive to political leaders, especially the presidential aspirants, ahead of the General Election.

In the ongoing National Election Conference (NEC), IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera noted that the conference is aimed at bringing delegates together to share their experiences on conduct of election and present measures put across by the IEBC to ensure fair and credible election.

She went ahead and requested all stakeholders; politicians, the government, the judiciary, institutions, and the public to support the commission on its mandate to deliver free and fair elections.

New directive to politicians

The IEBC noted that by the end of the conference, political leaders wiill sign an agreement to conduct their campaigns peacefully. The Commission noted that the agreement will bind the politician into ensuring peace prevails during and after the election.

"At the end of the conference, political leaders, especially presidential candidates, will sign a peace pledge to conduct their campaigns in peace. This will also act as a public sign from leaders to commit to maintain peace during and after elections," announced the Commission.

The Conference will run for two days (11th and 12th) as the IEBC continues with preparations for the election.
