When Willy Mutunga commented on the deadly banditry attacks in the North Rift region he took a shot at President William Ruto's government.

Yesterday, banditry was a topic of discussion at an interdenominational service in Baringo where President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua were present.
MP William Kamket was reprimanded by DP Gachagua for asking President William Ruto to remove police officers from Tiaty. He explained to Kamket that the police officers posted in Tiaty were there to do their jobs and that if he wanted them to go he would have to negotiate with the bandits to turn in their firearms.
Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga reacted to this by criticizing the President William Ruto led administration and asserting that a state that is unable to protect the lives and property of its inhabitants lacks the constitutional authority to rule.
